BMT-160 cycloidal hydraulic motor application case in the drive of the brush of municipal cleaning vehicles

I. Working condition background

Municipal cleaning vehicles are the core equipment for daily cleaning and emergency snow removal on main urban roads and rural roads. The brush drive needs to achieve efficient cleaning of sand, leaves, and compacted snow. There are three core pain points in the operation scenarios: First, the temperature difference in the working environment is large, ranging from -30℃ in winter to 40℃ in summer. Traditional gear motors are prone to problems such as brittle seals and difficulties in starting at low temperatures; Second, during brush operation, the brush frequently encounters sand, ice block impacts, requiring the drive element to have stable torque output without jamming or stalling; Third, some previous models used imported cycloidal motors, which had high procurement costs, long spare parts supply cycles, and high maintenance frequency, seriously affecting the efficiency of environmental cleaning.

Previously, this type of cleaning vehicle used ordinary gear motors to drive the brush, and the failure rate under low-temperature conditions was as high as 20%, with an average monthly maintenance frequency of 1 time, and the cleaning cleanliness was only 85%, unable to meet the requirements of urban refined cleaning.

II. Selection scheme

To address these pain points, the technical team selected the BMT-160 cycloidal hydraulic motor as the core component for the brush drive. The precise matching of its parameters with the working conditions is as shown in the following table:

Parameter

Specific Value

Advantages for Working Conditions

Displacement

160cc/r

Torque output precisely matches the load of the roller brush, avoiding energy waste from overcapacity (“large horse pulling small cart”).

Rated Pressure

17MPa

Compatible with the 14 MPa standard hydraulic system of the sweeper, with a 3 MPa pressure reserve to handle impact loads.

Continuous Output Torque

380 N·m

15% higher torque compared to gear motors of the same size, easily breaking through compacted snow and gravel obstructions.

Speed Range

10–500 r/min

Covers the operating speed range of 5–30 r/min for working devices, supports stepless speed adjustment.

Starting Pressure

≤ 1.2 MPa

Direct start without preheating in low-temperature environments, rapid response, reduces operational difficulty.

Weight

10 kg

Lightweight design, compatible with the mounting requirements of the roller brush arm without increasing the overall machine load.

Mounting Method

Direct Flange Connection

Identical installation dimensions to similar imported motors, allows direct interchangeability without modifying the original structure.

III. System Configuration

1. Hydraulic Circuit Design

A 14MPa constant pressure hydraulic system is adopted, which is matched with a 30L/min flow gear pump to ensure stable pressure supply for the motor. A one-way throttle valve + overload relief valve is installed at the oil inlet of the motor. The throttle valve enables the continuous adjustment of the brush rotation speed, suitable for different cleaning materials such as fallen leaves, snow, and sand. The relief valve automatically releases pressure when encountering large ice blocks, protecting the internal cycloidal pair of the motor. A back pressure of ≤ 2MPa is set, and an external Φ8mm oil drain pipe is connected to prevent excessive back pressure from causing the oil seal to be damaged.

2. Oil Fluid and Filtration Specifications

Select N68 anti-wear hydraulic oil, which is suitable for operating temperatures ranging from -30℃ to 100℃; equip with a 10μm high-pressure filter element, ensuring the cleanliness of the oil at ISO 18/13 level, effectively filtering sand, ice chips and other debris, and reducing the wear of the internal distribution mechanism.

3. Optimization of protective measures

Customized double-layer dust-proof rings and protective structures for the motor. The dust-proof rings effectively prevent sand, stones, and ice from entering the output shaft, avoiding wear on the cycloidal pair.

IV. Implementation Results

1. Significant Improvement in Work Performance

The sweeping speed of the roller brush has increased by 20%. The cleanliness of snow and sand removal has improved from 85% to 98%. When dealing with compacted snow mixed with ice, the motor has abundant power and does not stall, completely solving the problem of sluggishness in traditional drive systems and significantly enhancing the efficiency of sanitation operations.

2. Significant Improvement in Reliability and Lifespan

After on-site testing, a single motor can operate continuously for 800 hours without failure, and the success rate of cold start is 100%. The maintenance cycle has been extended from once a month to once every six months, resulting in a 65% reduction in annual maintenance costs. The sealing structure effectively withstands harsh outdoor conditions, and the motor's service life has been extended to over 3000 hours.

V. Application Summary

The BMT-160 cycloidal hydraulic motor, with its core advantages of strong weather resistance, abundant torque, controllable cost, and ease of maintenance, has perfectly addressed the technical and cost challenges in the drive system of municipal sweeping vehicles for brush rollers. This solution has been installed in large-scale batches in various municipal sanitation systems, achieving a user satisfaction rate of 98%. It has become the preferred solution for the drive system of municipal sweeping vehicle brush rollers, providing stable equipment support for urban refined cleaning and emergency snow removal.
